Cristiano moves ahead of Messi: 76 Champions League goals
Ronaldo’s goal against Juventus puts him back on top of the competition’s goal chart.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 76th Champions League goal, making him the competition’s leading scorer, one ahead of Messi on 75. The Argentinean will have his chance to overtake the Portuguese striker on Wednesday night against Bayern at the Camp Nou.
Ronaldo has nine goals this season in Europe’s biggest club football competition. Last year he set the season record with 17 en route to Real Madrid’s triumph. In total he’s played 114 games in the competition (excluding qualifying rounds). With Manchester United he bagged 15 goals and lifted the trophy in 2007/08.
Following his move to Real Madrid, Ronaldo has exploded as a goal scorer in the Champions League, creating a new record with 17 strikes in the 2013/14 season. Messi has scored in every Champions League he has participated in apart from his first when he played just one game for the Catalan club. He debuted in the 2004/05 tournament and has played 96 games in the competition. He’s notched more than 10 strikes in 2 seasons and has a strike rate of 0,78 goals per Champions League game with Cristiano on 0,66 per match.
