CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | REAL MADRID-ATLÉTICO
The 3,161 Atlético fans to meet at Plaza Castilla on Wednesday
It is to be a meeting point for visiting supporters. Atlético have sold 3,161 tickets for Wednesday night's match.
Atlético have sold 3,161 tickets for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid, meaning Simeone’s men will be well backed at the Santiago Bernabéu. The club from beside the Manzanares had just under 4,000 tickets available for the match and they were on sale until last week at the Calderón. On Monday morning a safety meeting was held and representatives of both clubs, as well as government officials, attended. The police operation will be the same as it always is for these type of matches, nobody wants to leave anything to chance.
Therefore, Atleti have prepared a meeting point for Atlético fans who will travel to Chamartín and want to get to the stadium in an organised manner. The meeting point is the Plaza de Castilla and from there they will travel down the Paseo de la Castellana to the stadium. The meeting time is 18:00 (CET) and the aim of the security forces is to have the Atlético supporters in the stadium at 19:00. The plan is to have the majority of the visiting supporters into the stadium before the bulk of the Madrid fans arrive. Atlético estimate that between 1,000 and 1,500 fans will march to the stadium from Plaza de Castilla. The Atleti fans will be looked after before, during and after the game. In the match at the Calderón there were some problems entering the stadium owing to the Madrid supporters arriving at the same time as most of the Atleti fans. The plan is for these problems to be avoided for the second leg.
