MÁLAGA 2 - ATLÉTICO 2 | SIMEONE
"Considering how the game panned out it was a good point"
Atlético manager maintains his side's fight is with Valencia and Sevilla after Griezmann earns a 2-2 draw in Málaga.
An important point in the battle for third place...
"The game had different stages. In the first half we could have done them more damage than we did and when they equalized it was a new game where they tried to hit us on the break. Then it was 2-1 and the game became more complicated. We were able again to respond to a tough match and Saúl coming on gave us more energy. An end-to-end game wasn't what we needed and we were able to control the match more."
What did Málaga do to make life difficult for Atlético?
"They are a very competitive side with very good players, above all in attack. After they scored in the first half they had more confidence and in the second their quality told, Amrabat, Castillejo, Samu... They came very close to hurting us."
Your career as Atlético manager started three years ago in La Rosaleda. Now you're in the hunt for third place and with a Champions League tie against Real Madrid on Tuesday...
"There was a work put in place with the structure of the team and we have been improving the squad. We have made many changes [of personnel] and we're still competing. We knew it would be like this until the end of the season and considering how the game panned out it was an important point."
Did the league get away from you?
"It was an important point that gets us closer to our objective of fighting with Sevilla and Valencia."
How does this serve as preparation for Tuesday?
"We're not in that bad shape. It was a draw."
