BAYERN MUNICH | THIAGO
Thiago back in action after a year on the sidelines
The Spain midfielder came on to replace Philipp Lahm in Bayern's 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
After a year and a week out of the game, Thiago Alcântara set foot on the turf again on Saturday. The former Barcelona midfielder, now under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, came off the bench to replace Philipp Lahm in the 69th minute of his side's match against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park. Bayern won the match 1-0 courtesy of a Robert Lewandowski strike against his former club.
Thiago's journey back to the playing field has been a long one. On March 29, 2014 he was substituted in the 25th minute of a match against Hoffenheim, precisely for Lahm. The Spain international was later diagnosed with a ligament tear in his right knee and despite successful surgery the player suffered several subsequent setbacks on his road to recovery. Before the injury Thiago had featured for Spain and was a firm bet to make the plane for Brazil with Vicente del Bosque's squad.
