Aduriz: "Camp Nou? We have to thank someone in Madrid"
"I’d rather not focus too much on the final yet. [The location of the final] is something I have an opinion on, but it’s not a very positive one," said the Athletic forward.
Athletic trained behind closed doors today without Mikel San José, who played the final minutes of Spain’s defeat against Holland, and Laporte, who on Monday also played against Holland but France U21s. Williams also made his debut for Spain U21s but Aduriz and Muniain trained after fully recovering from their respective injuries. Herrerín also seems to have fully recovered but the presence of Remiro in training gives Ernesto Valverde options ahead of his side’s trip to Sevilla.
Before the match, Aduriz spoke about the decision for the final of the Copa del Rey and also spoke about his recovery from injury.
Are you thinking about the cup final?
I’m thinking closely about the league match, I’d rather not focus too much on the final yet. [The location of the final] is something I have an opinion on, but it’s not a very positive one. We should start by thanking somebody at Madrid. It’s an incredible opportunity, however, and one we’re ready to experience.
How are you physically?
I’ve had a couple of days training with the group. I’m doing well, the leg is holding up well and becoming better, it’s the progression that I’d set. I’m on the right track.
How did you suffer the injury?
It was from a jump (against Celta), it was an odd challenge…I’ve done a thousand of them. It came from a strong blow in the match against Real Madrid from Kroos. He was protecting himself, it was normal. It came from a situation that wasn’t a usual one but I’ve taken it naturally.
Has the break been a welcome one?
You never know. Whenever there is a break the same questions come up. It caught us on a very good run and we want to keep that going. A rest never hurts us so hopefully we can continue the momentum until the end of the season and until the Copa del Rey final.
Are you eager to return? Could it risk you place in the final?
I’m always eager to play in every game and help the team. We must look at a number of things to take into account. Everthing will be done looking at the best for the team.
What is the plan from here until the cup final?
We have big games and we will look at our targets, what level we need to give and where we are. There are many games and there is still room for more progress.
Sevilla, your next opponents, are strong.
It does not surprise me, they have a squad that makes them very competitive year after year. They have very good players.
How do you explain the radical change in form?
Good question! Sometimes it is difficult to find the answers to why things change. Sometimes in football it is all about the small details, there are many variables that makes the difference and I don’t know them all.
