ATLETICIO MADRID - VALENCIA
Sell-out expected at the Calderón for the Valencia game
With just 3.000 match tickets available, club officials are optimistic that the game will be a sell-out.
During the course of a season, a handful of games take on a special significance. For Atlético, the Madrid derby and the home game against Barcelona are always special occasions for the club and it’s supporters. This season, one of the standout games for the home club is Sunday’s fixture against Valencia (2100 CET kick off) with third place up for grabs. Simeone’s side had two clear objectives coming into the season: finish in the top three in La Liga and get into the last eight in the Champions League. Two crucial games loom on the horizon in ensuring that these objectives can be met. First up is the visit of Valencia to the Calderón on Sunday with Nuno’s team in a position to threaten Atletico’s third place in the classification.
The supporters want to score the first goal for the team and have responded en mass with the ticket office doing brisk business over the weekend and on Monday. At the close of business yesterday evening, just 3.000 tickets were available for the fixture and club officials are optimistic that the game will be a sell-out come Sunday night. The late kick-off time won’t deter the home fans in getting behind Simeone’s side in ensuring that the third place is not usurped by the team from the East coast.
