Osasuna have parted company with manager Jan Urban after a slew of poor results. The final straw for the board of the Navarrese club was a 2-0 home defeat by Lugo on Saturday, a fourth consecutive loss in February. Youth team coach José Manuel Mateo will take over first team duties, the club said in a statement.
Urban's position had been under scrutiny since December, when he received an ultimatum from the board of directors that had been in control of the club since the resignation of Miguel Archanco as president and the arrival of his successor, Luis Sabalza, the same month.
Sabalza's accession to the presidency at the El Sadar Stadium coincided with an upturn in the team's fortunes: Osasuna picked up 14 points from a possible 18 during a six-match unbeaten run, which lent Urban renewed credibility.
However, after four consecutive defeats without scoring a single goal, Osasuna's chances of fighting for a playoff place have evaporated and now the club is now just four points from the Segunda drop zone. Osasuna does have a game in hand due to the postponed match against Alavés, but also the fourth-lowest goals-for total in the division.
