Lucas Silva, signed in the winter transfer window from Cruzeiro, made his debut as a Real Madrid player against Deport this evening. The Brazilian midfielder came on in the 71st minute to replace Illarramendi and received a warm ovation from the Bernabéu. Having been presented on 26 January he finally became the 22nd Brazilian (not counting Pepe, born in Maceió but a naturalised Portuguese) to play in the all white.
At the end of the game Lucas Silva spoke to Real Madrid TV: “I’m very happy. Very pleased. I realised a dream. It was magical. I’m going to remember it fondly. The first pass, being out on the pitch with the players.. It was great to hear the applause from the fans”.
The Brazilian said he was going to keep working to earn his space in the side and that he hopes to play against Schalke in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
