EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL | REAL MADRID | FELIPE REYES
Barclaycard Center honours rebound king, Felipe Reyes
Madrid’s skipper overtook Mirsad Türkcan’s Euroleague rebounds record in the team’s recent meeting with Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv.
Just before tip-off in tonight’s Euroleague Top 16 ‘Clásico’ meeting between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, the Barclaycard Center paid an emotional tribute to Felipe Reyes who became the player to have brought down the most rebounds in the history of European basketball premier club tournament. In last week’s game against Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, the Real Madrid captain surpassed Mirsad Türkcan’s Euroleague rebounds record with 1,288 rebounds in the competition. This evening, Reyes also became the Real Madrid player to have starred in the most Clásicos in history – tonight’s clash being the 70th time he has faced the Blaugranas.
A video compilation featuring some of the highlights of his career so far was shown on the giant video screens at the Barclaycard Center, then Emiliano Rodríguez and Clifford Luyk presented Reyes with a commemorative plaque. His father (former basketball player, Alfonso Reyes) and other members of his family joined him out on the court to rapturous applause.
