Kramaric is most affordable option for Atlético’s attack
The Spanish champions have tracked the Croatia international, who is aware of their interest. His contract expires in June and he could leave now for around 2m euros.
Atlético Madrid are looking for a striker to strengthen their squad during the forthcoming January transfer window. The club’s sports management team have a shortlist of potential additions, including Fernando Torres and Lukas Podolski, but it is the youngster Andrej Kramaric who appears to be the most affordable option for the Spanish champions. Accordingly, the club have intensified their pursuit of the 23-year-old Rijeka forward. As reported to this newspaper, the Croatian player is already aware of Atlético’s interest and although several other teams have enquired about him, Diego Simeone’s side appear to be best-placed to sign him.
The club want to incorporate a new forward into their fold but cannot pay the kind of fee that will compromise their economic situation and, additionally, Simeone’s team have adapted to the style of play that demands a battering-ram forward like Mario Mandzukic. The key is, therefore, to find a striker who can offer something different and Kramaric is admired for that reason. He is not just a finisher, he gets involved in build-up and combination play more than his compatriot. He is a centre-forward, but can also play alongside a more static type of striker. Kramaric is able to accommodate himself anywhere in attack, is dynamic and possesses a great shot. This season he has netted 28 goals in 29 games.
However, the competition to sign him is fierce because he could leave Rijeka for 2m euros and his contract finishes in June. In October, the newspaper Jutarnji list, which is based in the player’s native Zagreb, revealed Atlético’s interest in the forward. Since then Atlético’s interest has grown and Kramaric’s quality, youth and price-tag mean he is best-placed on their shortlist of striking options.
