LA LIGA | GETAFE - ATLÉTICO
"Football is a contact sport; we're not playing ludo"
Juan Rodríguez played a straight bat when quizzed after the game about his stamp on Mandzukic: "It wasn't one to break his leg."
Juan Rodríguez was sought out by reporters after Getafe's 1-0 loss to Atlético after stamping on Mario Mandzukic's foot, after the Croat had been hit in the face by home side defender Alexis, who was duly dismissed.
Stamp: "Everybody saw it, I know. It wasn't a stamp to break his leg, everybody was hot under the collar. There was also a judo move in the area when they scored and nobody pulled them up for it. Atlético use these weapons a lot as well and nobody says anything. It's football, it's not a big deal."
A tough game: "Football is a contact sport; we're not playing ludo. Now it looks like we're the hard team because of this, but Atlético are very intense as well, they pull shirts, they push you... and it doesn't seem to matter."
Possible foul in Atlético's goal: "I'll have to watch it. Miranda pushed me, then Mandzukic shoved Alexis and he could have prevented the shot. But that's football, it happened today and it happened as well against Córdoba, when they disallowed our legitimate goal. Now we have to recover and think about the next game. Congratulations to Atlético."
