EUROPA LEAGUE | STANDARD LIÈGE 0-0 SEVILLA
Emery: "It’s an even group and no one is going to make it easy"
The Sevilla coach referred to the other match in Group G in which Rijeka defeated Feyenoord 3-1.
Unai Emery, the Sevilla coach, expressed his belief after his side’s goalless draw at Standard Liège that Group G in Europa League is a “fairly even group where no one is going to make things easy”.
Emery, who appeared in front of the assembled press after the match at the Stade Maurice-Dufrasne, alluded to Thursday evening’s other Group G match in which Croatian side Rijeka defeated the Dutch outfit Feyenoord 3-1.
“To take two points from Rijeka (where Sevilla drew 2-2) and Liège, is not the best but it’s not the worst. Now we have to make ourselves strong at the Sánchez Pizjuán,” said Emery about their forthcoming home Europa League fixtures, which includes the visit of Standard on matchday four.
“I think that the team have done a great job and that they had control for the majority of the match, but we did not have enough to win. It’s true that when we lost control they also were unable to win,” argued the Sevilla coach, who acknowledged the fact that he had ended the evening “half-satisfied”.
Emery, speaking about the many changes he made to his starting line-up, explained that “all players should play so that everyone can help throughout the season” as “there are many matches between Sunday and Thursday” and due to that everyone should be prepared.
