LA LIGA | ATLÉTICO 2-0 ESPANYOL
Kiko Casilla: “Every Atleti set-piece posed problems”
Atlético’s expertise from free-kicks and corners was the difference between the two sides, Espanyol’s keeper said afterwards.
Espanyol keeper Kiko Casilla emphasized Atlético’s threat from set-pieces after the Catalans’ 2-0 defeat at the Calderón this afternoon. “Every strategic move gave us problems, every set-piece presented danger. We held out for most of the first half but what can you do when you are up against the defending league champions?
“We knew beforehand that chances would be few and far between and we failed to capitalise on the ones we did have. We all know about how dangerous Atleti are from dead ball moves – it’s something they have studied and perfected; they have quality up front and that is where they got the better of us,” the keeper explained after the game.
“Atlético attacked us from every angle. We were able to hold out for almost the entire first half and it was a pity about the first goal. Tiago caught me wrong-footed, I didn’t have time to react,” he lamented. “We came here with the idea taking something from the match; we knew that it was going to be difficult. Atlético are the defending champions for a reason – they know how to extract the most of the virtues,” he concluded.
