Juanfran: "Madrid fans view us differently now"

Commenting on team mate Arda Turan: "We need him. He’s one of the best players in the squad and can make a difference".

Atlético’s international defender, Juanfran Torres previewed the Madrid derby to be played at the Santiago Bernabéu this Saturday (20:00) after spending all week with the national Spanish team:

Getting to grips with Madrid: "From our perspective we never take any team for granted, we are never overly confident with Madrid or any other team for that matter. We prepare for the match with the idea of winning and confidence we leave behind in the dressing room. The derbies are now more competitive and we’ve managed to break the bad run. The Madrid fans now view us in a different light. These matches are great games to play in and I hope, as in recent occasions we manage to get a win at the Bernabéu".

The departures of Di María and Xabi Alonso: "They have an incredible squad and this is even clearer when you see players coming and going. Their president said that they would sign the best players and few clubs can accomplish this. They certainly can’t complain about the squad as they’re signed great payers.”

Dead ball: "To beat Madrid it’s vital to do things well: dead ball, Atleti create few chances ... We’ll play our way being well aware of just how difficult it is to win at the Bernabéu. Everyone seems to feel that it’s easy now for Atlético, but very few teams actually manage to achieve this".

On having Madrid figured out: "Since his arrival, Simeone has set out a game-plan which means that we are now more competitive in the derby matches. A few years ago it was something impossible but now things have changed".

Best time to win a derby: "There never is a best time; it’s always complicated to get a win against Madrid. Many of their players are coming back from international duty and I think it will be a tight match. I just hope that in the end, our staying power is greater than theirs".

Arda: "We need him. He’s one of the best in the squad and can make a difference. We’re pleased as he’s much better, but we just plan to play our game and make life as uncomfortable for Madrid as we can.”

Close fought derbies: "There will be few surprises. It will be a tight game, similar to recent games. The rivalry is great and becoming more acute. From speaking with team mates in the Spanish squad, these are games that everyone wants to win. The match will be certainly decided on an isolated incident, as in tight games like this they are generally the determining factor that make the difference".
