6,000 fans welcome new boy Griezmann to Atleti
The France international was officially presented at the Calderón: “I promise effort, sacrifice and goals,” he told those present.
Antoine Griezmann pulled on the Atlético de Madrid for the first time as he was presented before the fans at the Vicente Calderón on Thursday evening. Wearing the number seven shirt which was previously Adrián López’s squad number, Griezmann took to the pitch in front of 6,000 supporters with a banner in the stands bearing the simple message: “Welcome to the Calderón”. The former Real Sociedad star performed ball tricks then took a ‘selfie’ of himself in front of the main stand.
Griezmann kicked balls into the most vocal sections of the stand and took a microphone to address supporters from the centre circle, saying, “I promise effort, sacrifice and goals”.
The player added that he feels under no pressure at his new home: “I’m just enjoying this moment and I’d like to show my gratitude to the fans in every game and every minute I play. I’ve come here to play, grow as a player and help the side. We’ll try and put in another great season, like the team did last year. As El Cholo says, we’ll take each game as it comes – and that means a lot of effort and sacrifice”.
