Real Madrid and Monaco confirmed the transfer on their websites. Real will pay around 80m euros. James signs a six-year deal worth five million a season.
James Rodríguez is officially a new Real Madrid player and will be unveiled by the club at 20:00 today at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The news was confirmed by Los Blancos via the following statement, which was released on the club's official website:
“Real Madrid C. F. have reached an agreement with AS Mónaco FC to buy James Rodríguez, who will join the club for the next six seasons.
The player will be presented today, Tuesday 22 July, at 20:00 CET, in the Santiago Bernabéu's presidential box.
Following that, James Rodríguez will take his first steps on the Santiago Bernabéu's pitch wearing the Real Madrid jersey and will then answer questions from the media outlets in attendance in the press room.”
Real will pay a transfer fee of around 80 million euros for James, who will earn five million euros net per season. In principle, no players will be included as part of the deal, despite Monaco’s interest in goalkeeper Diego López.
