Real Madrid cancel reservation at problematic hotel
The squad were originally expected to stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel – part of the Dorchester Collection – but have booked elsewhere.
Real Madrid have cancelled their reservation at the Beverly Hills Hotel where they were due to be based during their stay in Los Angeles and stay at the Montage Beverly Hills Hotel throughout their summer stage in California. The club had originally been booked to stay at the Beverly Hills Dorchester, where they have traditionally been based during their trips stateside over the past five years. But a decision was made to switch hotels to avoid any potential problems. A number of stars from the entertainment world have been boycotting the chain in protest of a controversial law which was passed by its owner in Brunei. The ‘Sharia’ (moral code in Islam), permits extreme punishment such as flogging, severing of limbs and even the death penalty by stoning – penalties which have outraged Human Rights groups the world over.
A number of stars, such as Mia Farrow, Jay Leno and Ellen DeGeneres have called for the Dorchester Collection chain to be boycotted. To avoid any problems, Madrid will now stay at their new location, in the centre of Beverly Hills, close to the famous Rodeo Drive.
