Real Madrid agree terms with James Rodríguez
The Colombia international is currently on holiday and hopes Monaco will complete the deal, allowing him to join Madrid on 1 August.
Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with James Rodríguez – now the club needs only to close the deal with AS Monaco, who are asking 80 million euros for the highly-rated Colombia international. Negotiations haven’t run smoothly but the operation could be completed earlier than anticipated if Madrid are able to offload Ángel Di María to Paris Saint-Germain this week. The 60 million euros gained from Di María’s move will go towards financing the capture of James Rodríguez.
Madrid have the word of the player and his agent, Jorge Mendes, who has negotiated an annual salary of 7.5 million euros for his client. Dealing with Monaco however won’t be so easy. The club won’t be willing to let their star player leave without a battle and according to ‘El Confidential’, Barcelona are also keen on signing the player but not this season – in 2015. The Catalans would be willing to meet Rybolovlev’s asking Price of 90 million for the player, who insists he is only interested in joining Madrid.
AS understands that another player could enter the operation as a makeweight; Monaco have enquired about Pepe and Coentrao – both options have been flatly refused by Madrid. But both appear to be agreed on Casemiro who, valued at 10 million euros, would bring the fee for James Rodríguez down to around 70 million euros.
