Juventus in pursuit of Marcelo for next season
Tuttosport reports Antonio Conte's interest in Brazil international.
Serie A champions Juventus are continuing to plan for next season and are currently seeking to fill a concrete position: left back. Italian daily Tuttosport on Wednesday reported the Vecchia Signora’s interest in Real Madrid’s Brazilian defender Marcelo and named Barcelona’s Adriano Correia as a possible second choice.
Álvaro Morata and Alexis Sánchez, of Real and Barça respectively, have also been linked with the Italian club.
Marcelo, Brazil’s first choice left back, combines explosive physical attributes with strong technical quality and has improved his defensive ability considerably compared to previous seasons. Juventus coach Antonio Conte deployed Kwadwo Asamoah on the left of a five-man defence throughout the 2013-14 season but a potential formation switch to four has led Conte to consider strengthening the left back position.
Marcelo’s contract at the Bernabéu runs until June 2018 and he will be difficult to lure to Turin as he is a first-choice starter under Carlo Ancelotti. The player is valued at 15 million euros.
Juve’s second option is Adriano, who has never quite managed to secure a starting place at Camp Nou. The Brazilian is valued at between 13 and 15 million euros and would be a much more feasible signing than Marcelo.
Conte is also looking to bolster the right back slot and has made his interest in Feyenoord’s Daryl Janmaat known. However, Juventus are likely to face stiff competition for the Dutch international, who enjoyed a standout season in the Eredivisie.
