Atlético land Ángel Correa on five-year deal
The Spanish champions will allow the player to remain with San Lorenzo during their Copa Libertadores campaign.
Atlético de Madrid have closed the transfer of teenage striker Ángel Correa who will join the Spanish champions on a five-year deal from Argentine outfit, San Lorenzo de Almagro. The Rojiblancos have agreed an eight million euro fee with Correa’s agent, Agustín Jiménez who has been negotiating in Madrid since Monday.
An agreement on the transfer fee – close to eight million euros, was only reached late on Tuesday night. Correa is currently involved in San Lorenzo’s Copa Libertadores campaign and will be allowed to remain with the club for their semi-final meetings with Bolívar at the end of July. He will also be available to play should the team make the final, scheduled for mid-August. This means that Correa will not however, be able to take part in Atlético’s pre-season – which includes a tour of North America.
The player has taken out an insurance policy which will ensure that Atlético are compensated if he falls injured before he is officially unveiled in Madrid in August.
