CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | REAL MADRID - BAYERN
Pep: "I'm happy. I know Madrid well and I believe in my team"
The Bayern Munich boss reacted to the Champions League draw: "Coming up against one of the best teams in the world will be a big test for us."
“I’m happy, the whole of Europe will be following these two matches closely,” Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola told the media as he reacted to Friday morning’s draw for the Champions League semi-finals.
Guardiola continued: “I know how difficult it will be. Together with Borussia Dortmund, they’re one of the best counter-attacking teams you can face. I like playing at the Bernabéu. It’s a magnificent setting.”
The 43-year-old also admitted that he enjoys taking on “the best players and the best coaches in the world”, adding: “Coming up against one of the best teams in the world will be a big test for us. I know Real Madrid very well, I’ve faced them on a number of occasions both as a player and as a coach. But I believe in my team.”
Speaking in Munich, Guardiola was full of praise for the quality Real Madrid boast, underlining his opinion by reciting many of the individuals in Los Blancos’ line-up and exclaiming in admiration. Asked about perceived defensive weaknesses in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, he replied that in a match of the size of a Champions League semi-final “even Cristiano Ronaldo is going to be ready to track back and win the ball back.”
