COPA | REAL MADRID 2-0 OSASUNA
Arbeloa hoping for Atlético-Barça stalemate on Saturday
The Real Madrid defender also reacted to Xabi Alonso's new contract: "If he hadn’t stayed, he’d have been impossible to replace."
Real Madrid’s Álvaro Arbeloa was full of praise for goal-scorer Jesé Rodríguez after his side’s 2-0 win over Osasuna in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.
The Spain defender also admitted that he’ll be hoping for a draw when Atlético Madrid host Barcelona in the Liga BBVA on Saturday.
Atlético-Barça: “They are ahead of Real Madrid. Whatever the result, we have to keep on fighting to catch up with them. If it's a draw at the Calderón, that'd be better.”
First-leg win: “2-0 is a very good result but we can’t be complacent in Pamplona. They always make life difficult for us there.”
Looking for a third goal: “There were doubts about whether to take more risks and go for 3-0, but we couldn't let them get one back. We wanted to get another to give ourselves that cushion, but we also didn’t want to take too many risks.”
Jesé: “He’s doing tremendously well and we hope his injury is nothing. What he’s doing is brilliant; he has to keep it up.”
Xabi Alonso: “If he hadn’t stayed, he’d have been impossible to replace. We would have had to wait until his son grew up. We’re all very happy.”
Gareth Bale: “He did well. We're very pleased to have him back.”
