CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | BARCELONA-CELTIC
"People have been unfair on us, we're not invincible" - Busquets
"We definitely don't doubt ourselves, our style of play or our coach. We are united and we know the road we want to go down."
Sergio Busquets hit out at critics of the team's recent form in the press conference ahead of the final Champions League group game against Celtic, declaring: "Defeats are part of football, we're not invincible."
Just a point needed against Celtic to win the group:"This game could be deceptive but we have learnt our lesson from last year. They play in a different way to us. The sooner we score, the better, because they will try and close up at the back the longer the game goes on."
Importance of regaining confidence: “The important thing is to win, but sometimes you cannot. Confidence is relative. Defeats are part of football, we're not invincible and it's not unusual that over the course of a season you lose a game or two."
Doubts about the team: "We don't doubt ourselves, but obviously when you lose you're doing something wrong. When you win matches your mistakes become less important, but we definitely don't doubt ourselves, our style of play or our coach. We are united and we know the road we want to go down."
Criticism: "Perhaps people have been a bit unfair on the team, but we know what to do. We are not contemplating a third defeat in a row [in the League and Europe].”
Style and players: "Our style of football is more or less the same as before, it doesn't improve or decline when certain players are on the pitch over others. Sometimes you have to vary your style of play depending on your opponents, but it isn't influenced by the quality of players on the pitch or on how comfortable players feel."
Trophies: "The important thing to remember is that we are the leaders of our Champions League group and La Liga and we are still in the Copa del Rey. It's far too soon to judge our season, there's a long way to go. Last season we were doing really well at this stage but we didn't finish the season very well. We hope we can stay in a good position so we can fight to win everything."
The plight of Pedro: "It's very difficult to keep a starting berth in this team. Since he first made it into the team, Pedro has shown he is worth a place in the side, that he can contribute a lot and that he is a great player."
Tello's situation: "I would tell Tello to work hard, keep knocking on the door and I'm sure he will get his chance. This is a big squad with a lot of great players in it but I'm sure he will get game time."
Is the team's style negotiable? "Our style is non-negotiable because of the players we have, but it's impossible to compare us with previous teams because of the difference in players, the quality of the opposition, and other things that have changed between then and now. It's impossible to play in [exactly] the same way we used to.”
Does the club have enough centre-backs? "Our problem is that we keep getting injuries. We have four natural centre-backs and if they are all fit then we are well covered in that position. But it's up to the coach to sign players, not me."
