Aranzubia says he’ll fight Courtois for the number 1 spot

The new Atleti goalkeeper was presented at the Vicente Calderón.

Dani Aranzubia, new Atlético Madrid goal keeper, was presented in the club’s VIP suite at the Vicente Calderón, with club president Enrique Cerezo and sporting director José Luis Pérez Caminero in attendance. The keeper said he was ready to fight for his place with Courtois and that he chose Atlético because “it’s a club in which any footballer would want to play”.

First impressions: “Everything’s gone great. I’ve been with the team for three or four days and the atmosphere is great, which is the key to winning. The recent success is based on that”.

Courtois: “I know what he means to Atlético and what he’s achieved but I just want their to be some competition. I’m a born worker and I’ll fight for the place. When he goes back to Chelsea? I don’t look beyond tomorrow. I’m focused on training well and not looking beyond that”.

Quick signing? “In truth the signings are never as quick as they seem. I chose them because they are a really good team and any player would love to play here”.

Sevilla: “We’ve got to win, we’ll do everything possible, though Sevilla are a very competitive side, with the same goals as us and going there is tough”.
