Real Madrid confirm sale of José Callejón to Napoli

The 26-year-old has signed a four-year deal at the Serie A club. Several reports in Italy have placed his transfer fee at around ten million euros.

José María Callejón has been confirmed as a Napoli player after completing his move from La Liga club Real Madrid. The 26-year-old has signed a four-year deal at the Stadio San Paolo. On Wednesday, Callejón passed a medical in Naples.

The former Espanyol midfielder’s transfer was announced simultaneously on the Twitter sites of both Napoli and Madrid. The transfer fee paid for the player has not been disclosed, although several reports in Italy have placed the figure at approximately ten million euros.

Callejón began his career in the Real Madrid youth ranks, playing for Real Madrid Castilla between 2006 and 2008. He then joined Espanyol before returning to ‘Los Blancos’ for five million euros in June 2011. He made 55 La Liga appearances for the Madrid first team (scoring eight goals), in addition to playing 19 matches in the Copa del Rey (7 goals), four in the Supercopa de España and 9 in the Champions League (7 goals).
