Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Spain international Jesús Navas. The 27-year-old has passed a medical in New York, where he is currently on international duty in the build-up to the Confederations Cup. The former Sevilla winger moves to the Premier League club for 20 million euros (rising to 26 million).
Reflecting on his transfer to City, Navas said: “Manchester City have an exciting project and it’s the right moment to take this step. I’m very happy at this opportunity.”
He added: “The Premier League is a competition in which the football is very quick, and is suited to my way of playing. I’m moving to a great club and I want to keep on developing my game there. The club has shown a lot of faith in me and I want to repay that on the field.”
During a nine-season spell at Sevilla, Navas made 393 appearances, scoring 34 goals. The Spain cap also won six trophies: two Copas del Rey, two UEFA Cups, a European Super Cup and a Spanish Supercopa. He will share the City dressing room with players such as David Silva and Kun Agüero.
Navas is Manchester City’s second summer signing, following the capture of Brazilian Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk.
