Former Real Madrid forward Raúl González Blanco has won his first league title with Qatari outfit Al Sadd. The ex-Spain international, who moved to the club in 2012 after a spell at Bundesliga side Schalke, captained Al Sadd to their first league crown since 2006-07 - a record 13th in the Qatari championship - finishing five points ahead of second-placed Lakhwiya.
To ensure the title, Al Sadd needed three points at home to Al Kharitiyath in the league's penultimate round of fixtures. Although the visitors took the lead in the first half, Al Sadd sealed a second-half turnaround to win 3-1. Raúl did not score, but once again played a key role in his side's victory.
The Real legend has had a good season in Qatar, hitting nine goals in 21 league appearances. This latest piece of silverware means that he has now won 19 career medals. The previous 18 are: six La Liga titles, four Supercopas de España, three Champions Leagues, two Intercontinental Cups, one European Super Cup (all with Madrid), one German Cup and one German Super Cup (both with Schalke).
