Lampard leads Chelsea's comeback against Everton

Two goals from the veteran midfielder saw Chelsea come back from behind against a spirited Everton side.

Lampard leads Chelsea's comeback against Everton

Rafael Benítez' Chelsea took all three points in their visit to Goodison Park. The side from London came back from a goal behind after Everton took an early lead.

Chelsea looked like they were still sitting around the Christmas dinner table as Everton started stronger and took the lead in the first minute through Steven Pienaar. The South African was the first to react to Anichebe's header, which rebounded off the post, to leave Cech stranded.

It was an early blow for Chelsea, who arrived on Merseyside on the back of a good run, as the Toffees dominated and were unlucky not to double their lead, particularly after Jelavic's sweetly taken free-kick came back off the post.

Interestingly, it was Frank Lampard, heavily criticised in recent weeks and a player the English press were touting as a possible transfer target in the January window, that pulled the Blues back into the game with a neat header into the corner.

After the break the game evened up as Chelsea replaced Cech with Turnbull in goal. Once again Chelsea rode their luck as Everton pressed and hit the wordwork after a fine header from Jelavic. But Lampard popped up again to secure the points for the London side as he turned in Mata's blocked shot in the 72nd minute.

The result lifts Chelsea up to third, four points from City and 11 from leaders Manchester United, but with a game in hand after playing in the Club World Cup.
