Spain coach Vicente del Bosque spoke last night about the controversy surrounding Iker Casillas being left on the bench against Málaga and the former Real Madrid coach recalled a similar situation during his time in charge at the Bernabéu.
"I'm wary of talking about this because any explanation I give will be headline news tomorrow and taken out of context. We left Casillas out because of the circumstances, not from any orders we have been given. Only someone wishing to cause trouble would say that. We left him on the bench for technical reasons, neither Hierro nor Raúl ever said anything, particularly with Iker, who I've known since he was 10," Del Bosque said.
The national team coach also insisted that Madrid didn't need to "pay tribute to him" because it's his home and has already "given him everything".
