Diego Simeone has emphasised the importance of the Copa del Rey to Atlético Madrid's history, and said his side would be fully focused on finishing the job against Real Jaén on Wednesday to secure their passage to the last 16 of the competition.
The Argentine, who won the Copa in 1996 with 'Los Colchoneros', refused to talk about the derby match with Real Madrid at the weekend, and instead spoke about the 4-0 win over Sevilla on Sunday and the game with Jaén
Atlético won the first leg in Andalucía 3-0.
The return leg against Jaén: "Tomorrow we hope we'll be able to finish off the tie and play as well as we did in Jaén. I hope our players are on top form so that we can put on a good show."
Is there any point in tomorrow's game? "People will have their own opinions on how important it is for players to play games, but I think it's very important for players to get as much match experience as possible. Diego Costa played in the first leg but people reported that we played a reserve team. I think that players have to take advantage of every game they get to play and should always play their best."
Atleti being knocked out by Albacete last year: "I arrived here and had to work with the squad I had, which was a group of strong, enthusiastic players that wanted to get out of the difficult situation they were in. But you don't get anywhere without talent, commitment and effort and those things were key to getting us to where we are now. Over time we got to know each other and now the team has an identity, and I hope we respect that, whichever team we happen to be playing."
The win over Sevilla ahead of the derby: "I was delighted to beat Sevilla because it made the win in Granada even more significant. We are in great form in the moment and that'll help us in the league and the Copa."
The prospect of playing academy players: "What the fans want, ultimately, is to see the team win. If they can get excited about the futures of the young lads, then it's even better. But tomorrow I'll pick a team which I think will win us the game."
The importance of the Copa del Rey:"Winning the Copa would be huge for Atlético. The club has a huge tradition in this competition and I want us to keep going as far as we can in a competition I love."
Will you watch the Real Madrid game tonight? "I'm always watching football, whenever we are flicking through the channels at home and I see a green pitch on the green, I stop and watch it, as long as it's not tennis or golf."
