Özil singled out by Mourinho, again

The German international has been substituted six times already this season, three of those coming at half time (including the defeats to Sevilla and Betis). He has also started on the bench three times in the Champions League.

Özil singled out by Mourinho, again

José Mourinho took off Mesut Özil at half time in the defeat to Betis. Once again, it was made clear that Portuguese coach was unhappy with Özil's work rate and performance, which lacked intensity and concentration. More often than not, the Real Madrid playmaker is singled out when times are tough; Özil has started in the bench in three out five of Madrid's group games - against Manchester City and the second game against Ajax - despite scoring decisive goals like the one in the Bernabéu against Borussia Dortmund.

While in La Liga, Özil has been taken off six times, three of those at half time. Mourinho replaced the German playmaker at half time against Sevilla and against Deportivo La Coruña. However, in the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán (Sevilla) and Villamarín (Betis) Madrid were unable to claw their way back without Özil, quite possibly their most creative player.
