Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup es uno de los tiradores más jóvenes dentro de la competición profesional de League of Legends en Europa, conocida como la LCS. El joven danés comenzó a jugar de forma profesional a finales del 2013, hasta el día de hoy ha estado en numerosos clubes de la escena internacional. Actualmente ocupa el rol de ADC para la escuadra de Splyce.

El 2016 fue un año de alegría y tristeza para los jugadores de Splyce. En el primer split del club en la máxima competición europea, acabaron octavos en la tabla y forzados a pelear por su plaza en la LCS y lo consiguieron.

En verano la situación cambió completamente para el equipo. Splyce consiguió la segunda posición en la liga, pero eso fue insuficiente para poder acceder al Mundial, hazaña que consiguieron más tarde en la última oportunidad para clasificarse para el torneo internacional.

Realmente el Mundial fue muy complicado para el joven club, pero la experiencia siempre suma, “ir al mundial fue una muy buena experiencia. Entrenar en Corea dos o tres semanas antes del torneo fue de gran ayuda”, comenta Kobbe. Pero a ojos de los europeos se esperaba un poco más en nivel de rendimiento durante la fase de grupos, lo cierto es que incluso Kobbe lo cree así, “tuvimos un grupo muy difícil así que no esperaba que pasáramos de la fase de grupos, pero esperaba conseguir una o dos victorias más”.

Lo dicho, no consiguieron pasar de grupos y todo quedó en una experiencia para el futuro. Durante las semanas previas al actual split, los equipos informaban sobre fichajes nuevos, cambios en la alineación y demás modificaciones usuales en la pretemporada. Splyce es uno de los dos clubes que no realizó ninguna modificación en su plantilla y tiene su lógica explicación, “mantener la misma alineación evita que tengamos que pasar por el proceso de conseguir sinergia en el equipo y comunicación”, explica Kobbe, “seremos un equipo fuerte por supuesto, pero es difícil de decir quién ganará la LCS ya que hay muy buenos equipos participando”.

Equipos que lucharán por acceder a los Playoffs o escapar del descenso, actualmente Splyce se encuentra en mitad de la tabla, sin lograr vencer todavía a los equipos que se encuentran en la parte superior, ¿están condenados a la tercera plaza de su grupo?, “jaja, no, por supuesto” se ríe Kobbe, “no estamos ni siquiera en la mitad de la temporada regular, así que sería estúpido decir eso. Muchas cosas pueden ocurrir, especialmente cuando los dos grupos jueguen entre sí” concluye el danés.

Estas primeras cuatro semanas quizás no sean un buen indicador del nivel en los equipos, pero sí que arroja algo de luz sobre qué equipos lo tendrán complicado para escapar de los puestos bajos en la tabla de clasificación, sin embargo, para los que juegan los Playoffs la situación es distinta según nos cuenta Kobbe, “no me gusta juzgar demasiado a los equipos al inicio de la temporada regular. Porque al final todo depende de quién rinde en los Playoffs. Pero es un buen indicador de quién estará fuerte cuando lleguen los playoffs”.

La preparación que Yamato Cannon, entrenador de Splyce, infunde en su equipo es el intento de perfeccionar las estrategias y no dejar nada al azar, “nos centramos en nuestro propio juego y lo ajustamos ligeramente dependiendo de si hay determinadas cosas que haga el adversario”, explica Kobbe. Uno de los partidos más duros para el equipo hasta el momento fue contra Misfits en la cuarta semana, una serie que perdieron por un contundente 2-0, “creo que Misfits es un buen equipo con jugadores fuertes individualmente, pero parece ser que tienen problemas en el late game”.

Es importante perfeccionar las tres fases de una partida, generar condiciones de victoria para tu equipo depende de la fase en la que te encuentras, pero sin duda la fase temprana del juego es importante para conseguir ventaja y aumentar tus posibilidades con el paso de los minutos, “en el meta actual creo que el jungla, junto al midlaner, tiene un gran impacto en el resultado de la partida, ya que el early game depende del mid y del jungla” comenta Kobbe.

De esto se trata, de perfeccionar en todos los ámbitos posibles dentro del club, mejorar a los jugadores, la estrategia…, todo ello por un propósito, llegar lo más lejos posibles junto a tu escuadra, “para el split de primavera me gustaría llegar de nuevo a la final y ganar. Parece un poco complicado ahora, pero creo que si seguimos trabajando duro y mejorando de cara a los playoffs podemos llegar lejos”.

Kasper "Kobbe" Kobberup is one of the youngest marksmans in the European League of Legends professional competition. The young Danish player started competing professionally in late 2013, to this day he has been to numerous clubs on the international stage and he currently occupies the ADC role for the Splyce squad.

2016 was a year of sadness and joy for the Splyce players. In the first split of the club in the LCS, they finished eighth in the table and were forced to fight for their spot. In summer the situation changed completely for the team. Splyce took second place in the league, but that was insufficient to qualify for the World Championship, something that they achieved later in the Regional Qualifiers — the last chance to qualify for the international tournament.

Worlds turned out to be very complicated for the danish team, but an experience of this kind is always positive, "The whole Worlds experience was really good. Bootcamping in Korea for 2-3 weeks prior to the tournament was really helpful and also playing against the best international teams was a great experience" says Kobbe. But under his eyes he expected a little more during the group stage. "We had a really tough group so I didn't expect us to go through the group stage, but I had hoped for one or two more wins."

Moving forward to the the weeks prior to the current split, almost every team made changes to their rosters. However, Splyce is one of the only two clubs that did not make any changes within its organization and has its logical explanation, "Keeping the same roster does so we don't have to go through finding synergy in the team and communication," explains Kobbe, "We will be a strong team for sure, but its hard to say who will win the LCS yet, since there are a lot of good teams participating at the moment."

Splyce currently finds itself in the middle of the table, well above the organizations that will try to escape the relegations. However, they have not been able to to beat the teams that are at the top, are they condemned to the third place in their group? "Haha, no, of course," says Kobbe laughingly, "We are not even halfway through the regular split so that would be a stupid thing to say. Many things can happen, especially when the two groups play each other a lot can change."

These first four weeks may not be a perfect indicator of the level of the teams, but it does shed light on which teams will have difficulties to escape the lowest positions on the leaderboard. However, for those who are aiming to dispute the Playoffs, the situation is different according to Kobbe, "I don't like judging teams too much in the early stages of the regular season. Because in the end everything comes down to who performs in playoffs. But it does gives a decent indication of who should be the stronger teams when playoffs comes around."

The preparation that Yamato Cannon, coach of Splyce, infuses in his team is looks to refine strategies and not leaving anything to chance, "We focus on our own game and adjust it slightly dependending on if there are some specific things certain teams do," explains Kobbe. One of the toughest matches for the team so far was against Misfits in the fourth week, a series they lost by a resounding 2-0, "I think Misfits is a good team with strong individual players, but they seems to have trouble in the late game."

It's important to master the three phases of a game, but certainly the early phase of the game is important to gain advantage and drastically increase your chances of victory within minutes, "In the current meta I think the Jungler has a really big impact on how the game turns out together with the mid lane, since the early game is all about the mid/jungle." says Kobbe.

To conclude, the young marksman confesses us his objectives for this split, "For Spring split I would like to go the finals again and potentially win. It looks a bit grim right now, but I believe if we keep working hard and improve towards playoffs, we can go far." This is what is all about, it's about improving in all possible areas within the club, improve individually, strategically... all for a purpose, to reach as far as possible with your team.
