Luka Modric acknowledged that Real Madrid’s pre-season preparation was not ideal and the drain on the squad is still apparent. The Croatian international spoke to local sports daily Sportske Novosti and commented on how the squad spent more time flying than training ahead of the new season.
LIfe in Madrid: “I’m not happy, I’m super happy. Madrid is a great city and my family is very happy here”
Possible offer from Bayern Munich: “I’ve seen that mentioned in the press but it’s only a rumor. The whole squad had a really good relationship with Ancelotti. I’m still in touch with him but there has been no talk whatsoever of a move to Bayern”
Renovation: “My idea is to remain at the club until my contract expires in 2018. All my future plans are related to Real Madrid and there are no other club’s on my mind. I’m so happy here along with my family”.
Retiring at Madrid: “Few players have ended their career here, Zidane being one of the exceptions. I’d like to be one of those players too, but time will tell what the future holds”.
A heavyweight figure in the dressing room: “That’s not something i want to focus on. I get on really well with the rest of the guys and there is a lot of respect. We’re under plenty of pressure, but that’s a good thing. That’s the expectation at the club and I perform better under pressure”.
Benítez. “We failed to secure the results that were expected of us. Each person will have their own particular viewpoint on the results but I feel that physically we weren’t in good shape. Our pre-seaosn tour of China and Austrailia was too quick. We spent more time in the air tan we did training. This is a problem as it later impacts when the season starts”.
Relationship with Benítez: “There was a level of mutual respect and we had a professional relationship from day one. I gave my all for the team and I am sorry about his circumstance. However, that’s the way things are and I wish him all the best”.
Clásico: “I was so embarrassed. It was the first ‘Clásico’ that I really felt humiliated. It’s difficult to come to terms with things after such a defeat but we have to move on”.
Winning the title: “I feel frustrated as we’ve been close to winning it in the past two seasons. The league campaign is long and we’re still in with a great chance to be champions this season.
