Luis Enrique revealed after watching his side ease to a 4-0 victory over Granada at Camp Nou that he will not be attending the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Zurich on Monday despite being among the three candidates – and a clear favourite – for the manager of the year award. The Barça manager thus joins one of his predecessors at Camp Nou, Pep Guardiola, in giving the annual tuxedo-fest a wide berth. Guardiola, the current manager of Bayern Munich, is in Qatar with his players for a warm-weather training camp during the Bundesliga winter break.
The third candidate for the award, Chile manager Jorge Sampaoli, will attend the ceremony.
Barcelona will be represented in Zurich by club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and players Leo Messi, Neymar, Dani Alves and Andrés Iniesta, who are all in the Team of the Year and, in Messi and Neymar's case, on the three-player shortlist for the Ballon d'Or.
