Atlético Madrid have handed star striker Antoine Griezmann a pay rise and increased his release clause. The France striker’s current deal has not been extended however. L’Équipe reported on August 7 that Griezmann has a deal with Atlético until 2019, which was surprising as the Calderón itself stated when announcing the deal last summer that the forward’s contract ran until 2020.
According to club sources, Griezmann has received a salary bump but his contract length has remained untouched: it still runs through to June 2020. Atlético have rewarded the striker for his excellent return of 25 goals in his debut season while also attempting to ward off interest in his services from Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
In that respect, according to the club, Griezmann’s release clause has been increased “significantly” from the 65 million euros it originally stood at. Meanwhile, Griezmann has reiterated several times this summer that he has no intention of leaving Atlético.
