Barcelona announced today that the presentation of new player Luis Suárez has been indefinitely postponed. It was planned for Wednesday, but given the player’s four month ban from all ‘football related activities’ for biting Italian player Chiellini, the Catalan club asked FIFA for clarification. They responded that the player "cannot be presented in public”.
“The ban relates to all football-related activity. He cannot be in a football-related public event irrespective of the venue. He cannot even be involved in a football-related charity event”, said FIFA’s press spokesperson Delia Fischer.
Luis Suárez is in Spain, to meet his new teammates, although he won’t be able to train or play with them until the end of October. Suárez, his wife Sofía and their children Delfina and Benjamín left Montevideo on Sunday night, with a stop in Buenos Aires, sources close to the family confirmed.
Suárez still has the option of appealing the ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
