Atlético have made tentative enquiries about the availability of Arturo Vidal of Juventus. The Madrid side are looking to replace the Portugal midfielder Tiago, who will leave the club. Vidal is a man in demand, and will cost a minimum of €40m. Vidal would be a huge coup for Atleti in the 2014-15 season. Simeone knows that with Vidal in the centre of the park, his chances of building another strong and competitive Atlético side would increase dramatically.
Fernando Felicevich, the midfielder's agent, was contacted by representatives of the Madrid club recently to ask about his situation and if the player would be open to a move. The two parties spoke cordially and will speak again when Felicevich comes to Spain.
It is a complicated deal, not just because of the player's transfer fee, but also his high salary and the fact he is a symbol of this Juventus side. After their exploits last season Atleti are now an important outfit and are confident of being able to attract players of Vidal's stature. Real Madrid are also interested in the Chile international. Simeone views Gabi as a certain starter in the middle, and also has Mario Suárez, who could leave the club, given el Cholo is seeking an upgrade.
The loaning of Lukaku would free up transfer funds
Atlético are on the verge of securing the services of Romelu Lukaku for the next season on loan. If the deal goes through, the money set aside for the replacement of Diego Costa could be used as part of any deal for Vidal.
There's no rush to sign him up
The club are confident that given Vidal's stature a good, or bad, World Cup wouldn't dramatically change his value, and they are willing to wait until August, the month when they have done the majority of their business in recent years, to sign him.
