Unless the situation takes a radical turn in the next couple of days, it looks like Neymar will sit out the final game of the season – Saturday’s league title decider against Atlético. The Brazilian suffered an injury to his left foot during the Copa del Rey final on April 16 and has still not fully recovered despite his endeavours. Barça have two training sessions lined up before Saturday’s game – little time to convince Tata Martino that Neymar is able to return.
Neymar has been making a concerted effort to shake off his injury but the edema, which affected the fourth metatarsal bone, has yet to completely clear up. He underwent tests on Tuesday and although medical staff all agreed that the player could return to training, albeit, apart from the main group, the player failed to appear in today’s session.
On a happier note, Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba are reported to be faring much better with their respective injuries. Piqué’s fractured hip has now healed over and Martino is optimistic about his chances of returning for the final day. Alba meanwhile, will undergo fresh tests on his right hamstring to gauge how well the tear is healing. He is unlikely to be risked however with the World Cup less than a month away.
