Johan Cruyff has delivered a fierce attack on Barcelona in an interview in Kuala Lumpur, where the Blaugrana legend is to attend the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Neymar: “At Barça and at any big team, the coach has to be the boss. That’s why Pep [Guardiola] left, because the board interfered. And Barça's problem is Neymar. He’s a terrific player, there can be no argument about that, but you can’t sign a 21-year-old player and pay him a higher wage than players who have won everything.”
Neymar and Leo Messi: “If you already have the best player in the world, a 21-year-old player can’t be the main man. That’s impossible in football. At 26 he can, but at 21 it’s impossible.”
Refusing to rule out a return as honorary president following Sandro Rosell’s departure: “I travel a lot, I’m not always in Barcelona; it would have to be discussed.”
Clásico: “I wasn’t able to see it, because I was in the air. When I found out the result, I was surprised by the number of goals. Every game will be a cup final for Barça, Madrid and Atlético. Atlético deserve a lot of credit for the consistency they are showing without a big squad.”
