Reports in the German press say that Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Marc-André ter Stegen has passed a medical with Liga BBVA club Barcelona.
The goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a switch to the Camp Nou to replace Víctor Valdés over the past months, and the newspaper Bild now claims not only that an agreement has been reached over the 21-year-old’s transfer, but that he has already successfully come through a physical examination.
According to Bild, Ter Stegen’s medical was carried out in secret, with Barcelona keen to keep the issue out of the media spotlight until the current season is over. Blaugrana chiefs are at pains to protect the squad from any distractions – and also feel that the club should show Valdés respect by waiting until the end of the season before announcing his replacement.
Bild says that Barcelona will pay approximately 12 million euros (a figure already mooted in other sections of the media) for Ter Stegen, who will sign a five-year contract with the Catalan outfit. The German daily also reports that Barça have included a clause preventing Ter Stegen from revealing the existence of a deal until it is confirmed by the club itself.
