David Villa had to retire injured from Atlético Madrid's match with Real Sociedad in the 39th minute and has been ruled out of the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday.
According to the Atlético Madrid doctors, Villa suffered a light hamstring strain, and will be out of action for around 10 days, which means he is a doubt for the second leg at the Vicente Calderón.
Villa, who only moments earlier had opened the scoring from a Diego Costa cut-back, fell to the ground without receiving any contact from an opposition player, and put his hand on his hamstring. He could not get up again, and after being attended on the pitch by a physio, was replaced by Raúl García.
As well as the two Cup ties, Villa will miss Atlético's trip to Almería next week, along with midfielder Koke, ruled out of the game through suspension after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season against Real Sociedad.
Atleti have five players that are on four yellow cards and therefore one booking away from a single match ban: Filipe Luis, Diego Godín, Arda Turan, Tiago Mendes and Diego Costa.
