Portuguese daily ‘Diário de Notícias’ report that Real Madrid left-back Fábio Coentrão will spend the rest of the season on loan at Manchester United. The arrangement between both clubs is practically closed with the defender, who is believed to be unhappy at the Bernabéu, ready to move on to Old Trafford this month.
The 25-year-old Portugal international had appeared only sporadically this season, with Ancelotti favouring Marcelo as his first choice full-back on the left. Coentrão came close to joining David Moyes’ team last summer, only for the operation to be aborted right at the end of the inscription period.
United are expected to dispense with Patrice Evra when the season comes to an end and the loan of Coentrão could be seen as the club’s first step in a move to buy him outright from Madrid over the summer.
