Cesc Fàbregas underwent tests on his right knee this morning, having suffered discomfort in the joint during the game against Betis. He ended up asking to be substituted because of the niggle after scoring his second goal. Although the injury isn’t serious it is sufficient to warrant him dropping out of the Spanish squad for the friendlies against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
According to the Spanish Football Federation Marc Bartra takes his place in the squad. This is his first call up to the full national side. The defender follows in the footsteps of many of his teammates from the Under 21s who have been called up this summer by Del Bosque: De Gea, Montoya, Alberto Moreno, Nacho, Íñigo Martínez, Thiago, Koke, Isco, Muniain and Tello.
Bartra, successor to Puyol, was congratulated by his club captain, who handed him a special present, his number, “Congratulations Marc, you deserve it. I’m so happy for you. Take the number 5”, he said on Twitter.
