Spain coach Vicente del Bosque was giving little away as he told Spanish television channel La Sexta that the world and European champions are currently looking into gaining permission to call up Atlético Madrid’s Brazilian-born forward Diego Costa.
In an interview with the programme ‘Jugones’ (previewed by La Sexta), Del Bosque said: “I can’t tell you anything yet. We're seeing if he can play for Spain, it's in process. That’s the process we’re in at the moment. The squad announcement [for the World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Georgia in October] is on Friday. We'll see.”
Costa has hit eight goals in seven La Liga games so far for Atleti, with his potential inclusion in Del Bosque’s squad the hot topic of current debate in Spanish football. The ‘La Roja’ boss admitted: “I know that the Diego Costa issue is what everyone is watching out for right now, but there is a process to be followed.”
