Mesut Özil, who left Real Madrid yesterday to sign for Arsenal for 50 million euros, said that the lack of confidence Carlo Ancelotti showed in him was the main reason he decided to join the Gunners.
"In the last few days I realised that I couldn't rely on the confidence of the coach," he told the television service of the German Football Federation (DFB).
The midfielder was left out of Ancelotti's side for the 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, and the previous week reacted angrily to being substituted during the match with Granada.
Özil believes that, in contrast to the Italian's opinion of him, new coach Arsene Wenger fully believes he can keep growing as a player.
"He told me he has every bit of confidence in me," he said of his telephone conversation with Wenger, who speaks perfect German.
The midfielder added that he was delighted to start a new era in London and said that his compatriots Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker would help him settle in at the club.
