Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has intimated that goalkeeper Iker Casillas’ place in the national squad is not in danger ahead of the world and European champions’ match against Finland on September 5. Casillas was overlooked in favour of Diego López for Real Madrid’s La Liga opener against Real Betis on Sunday.
Speaking to programme ‘El Partido de las 12’ on Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Del Bosque said: “We are happy with the three goalkeepers we have, even if one of them goes 10 games or so without playing. Real Madrid's next game is on 26 August against Granada and the Spain squad announcement will be on 30 August. I don't think there will be any changes to our goalkeepers."
Del Bosque also discussed Casillas’ current situation at Real Madrid: "We have to assess the situation at all times. Iker is a unique person and someone who's quite special in the Spanish game. It’s a matter between the club and the player."
