Liverpool keep a close eye on Alonso's future at Madrid

The Kop are dreaming of the return of Xabi Alonso. The Real Madrid midfielder's contract runs out in June 2014 (he signed in 2009 for five seasons) and he is yet to sign a new deal. The Spanish club have been in talks with the player's agent, Iñaki Ibáñez, but nothing has been decided.

Madrid are offering him two more seasons, until 2016, when he will be 34, but the midfielder is in no hurry and prefers to finish the season before making a decision. He has already told those close to him that he will only renew if he feels good physically and is able to offer the same level of performance. Xabi Alonso is currently 31 and has made it clear he does not want to be a burden at Madrid.

The stalling on Xabi's contract has already prompted talk in England of a possible return to Liverpool, the club he played for from 2004 to 2009 and won a Champions League, European Supercup , FA Cup and Charity Shield. According to 'TalkSport', the Premier League club have already enquired about Alonso's situation, but Madrid are not even considering selling the midfielder.
