Although the Ballon d'Or has been the exclusive preserve of Leo Messi in recent years, Pepe still believes his team-mate and compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world.
In an interview with BWIN ahead of Real Madrid's trip to Riazor to face Deportivo La Coruña on Saturday, the centre-back spoke of Cristiano's qualities and previewed the game with the Galicians.
"Cristiano is a very complete player, he has all the qualities an athlete needs, and that is why, for me, he is the best player in the world," said Pepe.
On Deportivo, he said their biggest strength was "the Deportivo support, which is very strong, and therefore they will be very motivated to beat Madrid".
Pepe, who has recently returned to playing after undergoing surgery on his ankle in January, also highlighted the competitiveness of the Real Madrid squad.
"Every training session is very hard because we are a squad of 25 players and everyone wants to play," he said.
"It's a great situation for the club to have but it makes things difficult for the boss. We all have to give our all in every game so that we are chosen for the next one, and the boss has to choose the best players for each game."
