Fernando Vázquez's reign as Deportivo La Coruña coach did not get off to an ideal start on Friday as an on-form Gary Medel lead Sevilla to a 3-1 victory at the Sánchez Pizjuán
Almost all the action took place in a frantic opening 45 minutes.
The hosts were in front after just five minutes. Coke's cross was met in the air by Ivan Rakitic but the ball came off the hand of Medel on its way towards the goal.
Medel doubled the lead with a side footed shot into the bottom corner of Daniel Aranzubia's goal, after a cut back by Jesús Navas.
Riki gave the visitors hope when he pulled a goal back but a third goal by Medel quickly killed any sense of optimism before the break.
Substitute Salomao twice came close to scoring for Deportivo but both his efforts were superbly saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Beto, who was in inspired form.
The victory took Unai Emery's side up to 10th in the Primera División, while Deportivo remain bottom.
