Iker Casillas published a self portrait on Facebook in which he is seen without the protective, orthopaedic cast on his injured left hand. The goalkeeper said, "First stage of my recovery: today they removed the plaster cast. I am really happy about that and hope to be back with my team mates soon. A big hug to you all".
The Real Madrid captain fractured the base of his left thumb after being accidentally kicked by Álvaro Arbeloa in the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Valencia. Doctors estimate that he will be out of action for approximately three months which forced the club to bring in Diego López during the winter transfer window.
